How to Set Up Google Chrome Tab Groups

How to Create Google Chrome Tab Groups

  • Make a right-click on the Chrome Tab.
  • Press Add tab to the new group.
  • Type a name in the tab group.
  • Choose a color for the tab group.
  • Make a right-click on another tab to add.
  • Press Add tab to the group.
  • Press on the tab group to add it.

Once you create a tab group, you can customize it by changing its group name and color. Just by dragging the group, you can change its position and can even place it between the other opened tabs.



Group Tab Current Limitations

  • Well, it's true that the Tab Groups feature on Chrome is really interesting, and can help numerous users around the world, but there are still some limitations to using it. There are still a lot of things that tab groups can’t perform yet.
  • It is impossible to pin a tab in Tag Groups. Currently, if you try to pin a tab in Tab Groups, then the following tab will be pulled out of the Tab Groups and will get pinned with the other normal tabs.
  • If you mistakenly close all your tabs including the tab group, then you can’t restore or re-open it back instantly just like other normal tabs. You’ll have to create all the tab groups individually to re-open every tab in the tab group.
  • Right now, you can’t create or open tab groups through keyboard shortcuts. Keyboard shortcuts are really important to those who know how to use them, and it is really disappointing not having tab group keyboard shortcuts.

The setting up the name and choosing a preferred color will definitely help users to categorize their opened tabs. However, this feature needs a lot of improvements, and hopefully, Google will add more similar useful features and will improve the existing ones.
