A follow-up PlayStation VR headset is currently in development. Sony has announced that they are working on a follow-up to their PSVR headset for PlayStation 5. The PlayStation VR 2 is official, and it is coming out very, very soon. PSVR 2 has a lot of massive improvements. The original PSVR was introduced in 2016. It has pretty significant drawbacks such as resolution and tracking. We still do not know about the significant updates.

PSVR 1

The current PSVR headset has lights surrounded all over it. PSVR controllers also have a big ball of light on them. The camera sees those lights and then tracks your movements. It has some issues, like you need to be in a dark room; otherwise, the PlayStation camera will not see the lights. The camera on the PSVR is also cant track fast movements.

It has a resolution of 960x1080p per eye. It supports a 100-degree field of view. It is higher than the field view of quest 2. It has a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz.

PSVR 2

The PSVR 2 headset will have the cameras on itself. The headset will do tracking. PSVR 2 controllers have a very different design than the previous one. PSVR 2 controllers have circles that go around your hands. The new tracking system provides faster tracking.

Sony has not said anything about resolution. The resolution will be higher than the current PSVR. It should at least match the resolution of quest 2. We may see a resolution near about 2560x1920p per eye.

The human's eye field of view is said to be 120 degrees. So anything above 100 degrees will be better for PSVR 2. The refresh rate may be unchanged for the PSVR 2. 120 Hz is the highest in the industry.

Controllers

PSVR 2 right side controller has Joystick, circle button, x button, and menu buttons. The left controller has Joystick, triangle, square, create/share buttons. Both controllers have a trigger as well as a grip button. These buttons act as r1 r2/ l1 l2. These controllers have upgraded technology.

The adaptive triggers work in PSVR 2. It provides different tension levels in triggers. You can feel this while shooting with a gun or a bow. You will be able to feel elements from your game in the real world. It has a touch detection feature. So it can detect your fingers while resting on the buttons.

PSVR 2 controllers have massive upgrades from what we have now. They are specifically designed for VR.

Additional changes

In the current PSVR, you need a lot of stuff to connect with your TV. You will need a couple of cables to connect with. Sony is trying to solve this issue. It is hard to install and use with a lot of cables around you. You can trip on one of these cables. PSVR 2 is not wireless because of some issues. The PSVR 2 cable will be the single cord that goes in PS5. You will not require any box this time.

PS5 will be the brain and process all the data. Sony will have to put a lot of processing power inside the headset to make a powerful headset. It will make the headset heavier and less powerful than the PS5. Cable is the best option to deliver visuals on a VR headset.

According to multiple rumors, PSVR 2 will have 4K resolution 4000x2040 or 2000x2040 per eye. It may come up with a lens separation adjustment detail. This allows users to adjust the focus of each eye displays separately. Controllers will be tracked by cameras available on the headset.

The PSVR 2 will have an eye-tracking and rendering feature. PSVR 2 will allow you to get a better picture of what you are looking at at the time. Its focuses on the point you are looking at and provides the blur in the other areas. It improves the quality of the gameplay.
