Use Taskbar Settings

Use Settings Icon

You can also use Settings to show or hide Windows Security. Follow the below steps.

  • Click on the Settings icon by Win + X > Settings.
  • Select Personalization > Taskbar > Choose which icon appears on the taskbar.
  • Use the toggle in the Windows Security notification icon to show or hide the icon.

Use Task Manager

  • Open Task Manager on your system for more information view mode.
  • Tap on the startup button.
  • Choose the startup item Windows Security notification icon and disable or enable to hide or show the Windows Security icon.
  • Log in and Log out to apply changes.

Use Registry Editor

You can also hide or show Windows Security using the Registry Editor. The only warning is that it only works on Windows 10 Build Version 1803 or older.

  • If you have Windows 10 Version 1803, you can launch Registry Editor by clicking on the Start menu, going to the following location, and type the below command.
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows Defender Security Center\Systray
  • You need to double-click on HideSystray and set the value.
  • To Hide, set the value 1
  • To Show, set the value to 0.

Note: If you cannot see this key, right-click on the right side of your screen, choose New > Dword 32-bit, and name it Hidesystray.

Use Group Policy Editor

Note: To use this, you need to log in to your system as an administrator. This facility is available for Windows 10 Version 1803. Group Policy Editor is available on Education, Windows 10 Pro, and Enterprise.

  • Open Group Policy Editor on your system.
  • On the left side of your screen, type the below commands:
  • Computer Configuration \ Administrative Templates \ Windows Components \ Windows Security \ Systray.
  • On the right side of Systray in Group Policy Editor, double-click on Windows Security.
  • To Hide or Disabled, activate the Windows Security for all users, choose disables, and tap on the OK button.
  • To Show or Enabled, choose enabled and tap on the OK button.

Use REG Files

You need to have Windows 10 Version 1803 to use REG files on your system. The .reg file below will allow you to edit the DWORD value in the registry key. You need to enter the below commands.

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREPoliciesMicrosoftWindows Defender Security CenterSystray
  • HideSystray DWORD
  • 1 for Disable
  • 0 for Enable or delete
  • Save the .reg file on your system.
  • Now double-click the .reg file to merge it.
  • Whenever notified, choose Run, OK, Yes, and OK to agree to merge.
  • Now you have to restart the computer to apply changes.
  • You can also delete the .reg files.
